Like a garden in perpetual spring, this space is always in bloom—each piece an unfurling petal, a moment crystallized, a dream blossoming into form. I am a mixed media artist, weaving the untamed poetry of nature into ceramics, where wild beauty takes root and flourishes.
My work blooms from the rhythms of the earth, where waves curl like petals and the seasons drift through a dreamscape of ever-shifting hues. Autumn spills golden pollen into the wind, spring stirs in a hush of soft blossoms, and the tides weave liquid vines along the shore. Each piece is a fragment of this surreal wilderness—a bloom suspended in time, a whisper of an endless garden shaped by the breath of the world.
My practice draws upon influences from Surrealism and Symbolism, with a particular focus on the organic world. Like Georgia O’Keeffe, I explore the hidden layers of beauty within nature, using ceramics to abstract and transform flowers into something larger than life. The work of Yayoi Kusama, especially Narcissus Garden, influences my approach to repetition and infinity within nature—inviting the viewer to reflect on the transient beauty of the world around us. The botanical paintings of Marianne North resonate with my work as well, with their surreal depictions of flowers and plants, transcending the real and becoming something symbolic and eternal.
I also embrace modern technology as part of my evolving practice. While I honour the traditional craft of ceramics, I explore digital tools, photography, and virtual platforms to expand the way I document, share, and reinterpret my work. This fusion of the tangible and the digital allows me to challenge perceptions of nature, layering organic forms with new perspectives that exist beyond the physical world.
Flowers are fleeting by design. They unfurl, dazzle, and disappear—reminding us that beauty is temporary, that time moves without mercy. Yet, I sculpt them in clay, offering them a place beyond time. Not as imitations of real blooms, but as something dreamlike, unrooted—caught between the natural and the surreal. No two are alike, because no two moments of beauty are ever the same.
The fire of the kiln reshapes them, glaze settles unpredictably, cracks form like petals kissed by frost. They do not wilt. They do not fade. They linger—a quiet defiance, an invitation to hold onto the wild just a little longer.
This website is more than a portfolio—it is a garden in motion. As I create, I document. New flowers bloom here, captured and shared, an ever-expanding world of colour and form. Each addition is a testament to growth, to memory, to the beauty of imperfection. I invite you to explore this evolving landscape, where each ceramic bloom is a fragment of nature reimagined—something both eternal and ephemeral.
I am always open to collaborations, commissions, and the joy of creating with others. I also run art workshops, sharing my passion for ceramics and the creative process. Whether you are here to explore, to collect a piece of the wild, or to work together on something new, I welcome you to step into this blooming world.
Originally from the Netherlands, I now call the coastal town of Penzance in Cornwall home. I've lived here for over a decade with my partner and our young daughter, whom I lovingly call Foxglove. My name, Roos van Leeuwen, translates to "Rose from Lions"—a name that reflects the union of strength and beauty, much like the flowers I sculpt.
Just as a flower finds its place to bloom, we’ve found this special corner of the world to nurture our own growth—both as a family and in my art. Here, in this breathtaking landscape, art and memories continue to blossom and flourish.
